JOB DESCRIPTION

McKinley Marketing Partners, a 24 Seven Company, is looking for a medicare editor for our nonprofit client in DC. The Medicare Editor will edit and help update high-quality content for digital platforms with accurate details and explanations in English.

This is a long-term, on-going (18+ months), W2, 40-hour-a-week contract. All McKinley roles include a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on key issues in the organization’s priority areas including Medicare, Medicaid, health insurance, health care and also other topics as needed
  • Develop creative approaches to stories in conjunction with the Medicare writer
  • Assign stories to Medicare writer and freelance writers as needed
  • Create contracts for freelance work after consulting with the executive editor based on need and budget
  • Streamline stories from the Medicare writer and freelancers and help determine coverage gaps in online content
  • Work with the executive editor to review relevant material from other departments, shape coverage, and solve problems
  • Learn how to use Content Production System and other relevant software to get stories ready for production
  • Conceptualize illustrations with digital designers for stories and Q&As
  • Work with Medicare writer to shape relevant statistics from reputable, primary sources into ideas for charts, maps, tables and other graphics
  • Consult frequently with our search engine optimization team to help shape the scope of stories so they'll be discoverable in organic search
  • Gain knowledge of current inventory of Medicare stories to help with inline linking and to prevent duplication of topics that would hurt SEO
  • Write preliminary headlines and budget lines using SEO skills and keep our various content schedules and inventories updated
  • Collaborate with others across the organization and participate in meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in healthcare or writing/editing fields
  • 5+ years of editing experience
  • Experience editing content directly related to Medicare, Medicaid, health insurance and health care
