Content Writer and Editor
Our client, a foundation in DC, is seeking a talented Freelance Content Writer and Editor to join their dynamic team. This role is essential to sustaining the high-quality editorial and content production efforts that reach diverse audiences through various platforms, including the .org website, podcasts, newsletters, and marketing collateral. The ideal candidate will excel in crafting compelling content and refining editorial pieces to align with our mission of advancing cancer care and research.
Employment Type: Contract
Hourly Rate: $40-50/hr
Contract End Date: December 23, 2025
Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours
Preferred Work Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET
Location: Remote
Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Develop clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate written materials including articles, blog posts, press releases, email campaigns, social media content, and fundraising communications.
- Editorial Oversight: Edit and proofread content for accuracy, tone, grammar, and style, ensuring consistency wi brand voice and compliance with AP Style guidelines.
- Content Planning: Maintain and manage editorial calendars to ensure the timely delivery of mission-aligned content across multiple channels.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with Integrated Marketing and Communications, Publications, and other departments to integrate and optimize content across organizational initiatives.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct multi-level content reviews, fact-checking, and ensure SEO best practices are applied to increase discoverability and engagement.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and constructive feedback to colleagues and contributors to uphold high editorial standards.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in content writing, copyediting, and proofreading in fast-paced environments.
- Strong command of AP Style and demonstrated ability to maintain consistent brand voice across diverse content.
- Experience managing editorial workflows and meeting strict deadlines.
- Working knowledge of on-page SEO tactics, including keyword usage and metadata optimization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or related field.
